WEBINAIRE ANAPRI : Bridging gaps in fertilizer and soil health policies for a world in crisis

On Thursday, September 28, 2023, the Africa Network of Agricultural Policy Research Institutes (ANAPRI) covered a crucial webinar in partnership with the Alliance for Commodity Trade in Eastern and Southern Africa (ACTESA), a specialized agency operating under the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), and the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Food Security Policy Research, Capacity, and Influence (PRCI). The webinar, titled “Opportunities for inclusive and sustainable agri-food systems: Bridging gaps in fertilizer and soil health policies for a world in crisis,” aims to shed light on critical aspects of agricultural development on the African continent.

The webinar seeks to explore the impact of global crises, such as the Russia-Ukraine war, on the fertilizer industry in Africa. This exploration is essential for understanding the challenges facing the continent’s agricultural sector. It concurrently examine the opportunities and obstacles in enhancing agricultural productivity in Africa, identifying key areas for intervention to unlock its agricultural potential.

Additionally, the event explore a spectrum of solutions, spanning the immediate, medium-term, and long-term, to address food systems and transformation in Africa. These proposed solutions are intended to serve as guiding principles for policymakers and stakeholders in their endeavours to foster sustainable agricultural development in Africa.

Cheickh Sadibou FALL an economist at the Bureau d’Analyses Macro-Economiques of the Senegalese Institute of Agricultural Research (ISRA-BAME) was among key experts who participated on the webinar transformative dialogue conducted via zoom.

“Among others, I was invited to react on how the African governments increase the resilience of the agricultural sector (specifically fertilizer sub-sector) in the face of global shocks such as the Russia Ukraine Conflict and COVID-19 and how African countries address the issues of Fertilizer and Soil Health policies in the future”

In conclusion Cheickh Sadibou said “since it was a sharing event, I learned a lot from other African countries experience.”
